Lake Conroe's a year-round fishery, but each season brings its own challenges and rewards. In spring, we might be sight-fishing for bedding bass in the shallows. That's when the big girls feed up and some of the year's biggest bass are caught.

Largemouth Bass: The star of the show on Lake Conroe, these green machines can grow to trophy size in these fertile waters. Our lake record stands at over 15 pounds, and 5-8 pounders are caught regularly. Largemouth are ambush predators, so we'll target areas with plenty of cover - sunken timber, boat docks, and submerged vegetation. These fish are known for their aggressive strikes and acrobatic jumps, making them a blast to catch on both artificial lures and live bait.
While we primarily target largemouth, Lake Conroe's also home to some bonus species that might make an appearance:
White Bass: These scrappy fighters often school up in huge numbers, especially in late winter and early spring when they make their spawning runs up the rivers and creeks. When you find a school, it's non-stop action. They're great eating too!
Catfish: Lake Conroe's loaded with both channel and blue catfish. While we don't specifically target them on our bass trips, it's not uncommon to hook into a whisker-faced surprise, especially when fishing deeper structure.
Crappie: These tasty panfish can be found around brush piles and bridge pilings. They're especially popular in cooler months when they school up in deeper water.
Look, there's a reason Lake Conroe's considered one of the best bass fisheries in Texas. The combination of diverse habitat, year-round fishing, and the potential for trophy catches makes every trip exciting. But having a knowledgeable guide who knows the lake like the back of their hand? That's what turns a good day into a great one.
With Fish Hard Guide Service, you're not just getting a boat ride - you're getting a full-on bass fishing education tailored to your skill level. We'll work hard to put you on fish, share our local knowledge, and make sure you have a ton of fun in the process.

Easily the best guide I’ve had in years! He’s not at the front of the boat trying to out-fish you—instead, he genuinely guides you and lets you enjoy the experience. Truly an outstanding guide!

Largemouth bass are the kings of Lake Conroe, typically ranging from 2-8 pounds. These ambush predators love hanging around submerged timber, docks, and weed edges. Spring and fall are prime times, but we catch 'em year-round by adjusting tactics. Anglers love largemouth for their aggressive strikes and acrobatic fights - nothing beats seeing a big bass launch out of the water! They're also tasty if you choose to keep a few. These fish have a knack for wrapping you around cover, so I always tell folks to keep steady pressure and steer 'em away from structure. One local trick: work soft plastics slowly through brushpiles on hot summer days. The big ones often suspend in the shade, waiting to crush an easy meal. Whether you're after that trophy fish or just want consistent action, largemouth bass fishing on Conroe is hard to beat.
